I dislike when I see people who cannot even do a llSay(0,”lol”); in world who slap together a HUD out of prefab scripts with 12 attacks and charge 1,000 linden for it, or in some cases 7,000 L$ Not because I put hard work into my HUD that I work on, but because the end users suffer. They end up paying for crap that will be semi broken, isn’t unique, or has nothing to it other than 12 lame attacks and a NPV that half works.
Consumers in second life deserve good products at affordable prices that work. Do I dislike HUDS that charge over 1,000L$ or even 5,000L$ ??? In short no, if they are a great product, truly great and worth the money, than I have no issue. I can understand why personally I may not like them, as a HUD is personal preference like Mac V.S. P.C. Though if the HUD is good, coded well, sturdy, has good tools, minimal lag, and is done right, then I can see why they would want to charge a bit more. A great product can be offered at a bit of a higher price, after all that is a principle basic capitalism. One person has a service and the other buys it. You have a choice to buy a better service for more money.
There are exceptions to the rule that will sell a great product, or even a decent one for a cheap price, like myself with Hope HUD. However I am sad to not see this more often. I wish people would care less about the money and more about the customers, or just about making something good for people at a fair price.
I am not really sure what brought this on, it may be, because some of my users have told me that they thought my HUD was on sale or something due to the low price. I do not understand the problem with charging what you think is fair for your products. Greed to an extent is what helps expand businesses, however great customer service, a fair price, and a good attitude can help at the end of the day as well.
The other day a large group of people in a certain simulator teleported me in and said I needed to remove features from my HUD, because they were wrong or they shouldn’t be in there. Well other HUDS have them, so why should I take them out of mine? It may have had to do with the fact some other combat HUD makers were in the sim doing some of the yelling, maybe because some of them were former emerald developers who wanted their toys private. The few who actually cared that were there were not yelling at me, they in fact were discussing with me like adults. Progress and new features should not be hindered, if linden labs has a problem with my HUD they would let me know. It is not up to a small group of residents playing script police to tell me what to do. If my users, or people directly effect by my HUD have legitimate complaints, then I will always deal with them, after all it is my responcibility to attempt to make sure my products are safe. For that reason I feel upset that another group of content creators would raise hell at me for what I feel is right, just to protect their money.
Anyway those are some of my honest thoughts on the whole HUD “war” that has been appearing as of late. I don’t want to fight over who does what best
all I want is for the user, the consumer, the every day average Joe avatar resident to get the best out of the second life combat experience, for cheap, and without tons of drama. I doubt many people will read this as my blog doesn’t get many hits, but have a super awesome RL and SL day, and I hope this post did not offend anyone as I am merely expressing my honest opinion.
