I am not dead :)

Not dead, just had a fun summer, did lots of work. I am currently doing a project outside of sl writing a game in C# I also am in school currently. College can be demanding, so when I am not there, or at work, or looking for a better job, or on sl, or with friends in rl, I have that time to blog. So that explains why I have been MIA. The twitter page will be more active as well.

Hope Platinum GAMA is expecting its update very soon, I want to do a dual update with Hope Classic as well to the new set region pos functions. This will allow a MUCH better follow for attacks that used the older methods of warp or set pos. I am also going to be approaching some of the nastiest attacks sl has ever seen. Who needs a lagger or a spammer, when I can push you so hard in no push you fly through the sim wall? Laggers and spammers can be blocked by most clients, so why have a HUD that, that is all it can do. I say be original and make some cool attacks. So everyone look forward to seeing new attacks and tools in the works. I think someone requested nukes?

Massive updates everywhere

With all the new things I have been writing script wise lately I have found them able to be integrated into my HUD. Because of this, hope hud and platinum have been getting massive and awesome updates. Hopes is not out yet because of time constraints and I want to make it perfect before release. However it looks amazing and I am excited. The other thing I realized is I should make probing and other methods of key retrieval for avatars, for radar and targeting as tpv radar keys suck and are being done away with due to viewer two.

Divinity Hud Relaunch

Divinity HUD and its awesome pretty shields are back https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Divinity-hud/1730245

Script memory is awesome, don’t abuse it!

Script memory is a touchy issue. Why should you care about using 50 scripts in one of your products? Well there are only so many resources a sim can devote to running those, not to mention your tp time or sim crossing time may shit a brick or two when you do so. Multi-tools and combat HUDS are the most discriminated towards of any commonly used scripted item.

Hope classic uses 7 scripts for a dialog driven HUD, I want to cut this back to 5 or 4 soon as even 7 scripts for one HUD can be a lot in my opinion for a dialog HUD. The new full featured Platinum HUD uses a total of 9 currently for the HUD. 9 scripts for a full featured HUD that uses little dialogs (soon to be none) is sexy. My point I am making here is that people should try to script as conservatively as possible. Not because having less scripts or faster products that don’t suck down will help sales, but because it will help second life. If the simulator you are in doesn’t have to devote excessive amounts of resources to running countless amounts of scripts or handling functions that may be results of them such as improper re-size script usage, than second life may have less lag and sims can run cleaner and better.

If someone wants to argue that running excess scripts in objects don’t cause lag, than think back to when teleporting into a sim wearing 10 or more mono scripts would cause “mono pause” and freeze the entire sim.

Script limits are coming up to force people to use less memory, however this may break peoples content that they love. While I am against improperly made content in the first place and content that is script/memory/resource heavy, it is not right take content from someone that they rightfully paid for.

So in short, try to script with care and try to watch your resource usage. Many people have, and I see more and more people wanting to cut back on script usage, so keep it up to try and make a better sl, where that one persons hair with 200 re-size scripts doesn’t suck up all the sims resource usage.

Have a splendid sl and rl day, Xylex Doomdale

Copy cat HUDS

Its pretty lame when I keep seeing rip offs of other HUDS in sl. Or ones using the same prefab scripts. I am tired of seeing shitty dialog based HUDS that people build off the old flew voom punisher scripts or the kaotic shepard scripts. I saw a direct rip off of my friends avenger HUD the other day, the thing was more expensive, heavier scripts, and looked so similar the UI had been directly ripped off.

While I know it is like comparing an apple to a potato, titanium HUD and the new phenom Evo look really similar to certain versions of hope. It is mostly me being a spaz though as the newer phenom doesn’t use dialogs, and has some interesting slider features. The whole tool bar HUD thing though did suddenly seem to explode after Hope hit, but maybe it is just me being an egomaniac :P

In short I just think every HUD needs its own interface.

Hope Platinum Closed Group Beta

Hope Platinum is having a closed beta to the Hope Combat Group for all Hope Customers. Contact Xylex Doomdale to be listed on the beta testers list. Oh and get ready, platinum is pure sexyness.

My Thoughts on shit HUDS as of late…

I dislike when I see people who cannot even do a llSay(0,”lol”); in world who slap together a HUD out of prefab scripts with 12 attacks and charge 1,000 linden for it, or in some cases 7,000 L$ Not because I put hard work into my HUD that I work on, but because the end users suffer. They end up paying for crap that will be semi broken, isn’t unique, or has nothing to it other than 12 lame attacks and a NPV that half works.

Consumers in second life deserve good products at affordable prices that work. Do I dislike HUDS that charge over 1,000L$ or even 5,000L$ ??? In short no, if they are a great product, truly great and worth the money, than I have no issue. I can understand why personally I may not like them, as a HUD is personal preference like Mac V.S. P.C. Though if the HUD is good, coded well, sturdy, has good tools, minimal lag, and is done right, then I can see why they would want to charge a bit more. A great product can be offered at a bit of a higher price, after all that is a principle basic capitalism. One person has a service and the other buys it. You have a choice to buy a better service for more money.

There are exceptions to the rule that will sell a great product, or even a decent one for a cheap price, like myself with Hope HUD. However I am sad to not see this more often. I wish people would care less about the money and more about the customers, or just about making something good for people at a fair price.

I am not really sure what brought this on, it may be, because some of my users have told me that they thought my HUD was on sale or something due to the low price. I do not understand the problem with charging what you think is fair for your products. Greed to an extent is what helps expand businesses, however great customer service, a fair price, and a good attitude can help at the end of the day as well.

The other day a large group of people in a certain simulator teleported me in and said I needed to remove features from my HUD, because they were wrong or they shouldn’t be in there. Well other HUDS have them, so why should I take them out of mine? It may have had to do with the fact some other combat HUD makers were in the sim doing some of the yelling, maybe because some of them were former emerald developers who wanted their toys private. The few who actually cared that were there were not yelling at me, they in fact were discussing with me like adults. Progress and new features should not be hindered, if linden labs has a problem with my HUD they would let me know. It is not up to a small group of residents playing script police to tell me what to do. If my users, or people directly effect by my HUD have legitimate complaints, then I will always deal with them, after all it is my responcibility to attempt to make sure my products are safe. For that reason I feel upset that another group of content creators would raise hell at me for what I feel is right, just to protect their money.

Anyway those are some of my honest thoughts on the whole HUD “war” that has been appearing as of late. I don’t want to fight over who does what best :P all I want is for the user, the consumer, the every day average Joe avatar resident to get the best out of the second life combat experience, for cheap, and without tons of drama. I doubt many people will read this as my blog doesn’t get many hits, but have a super awesome RL and SL day, and I hope this post did not offend anyone as I am merely expressing my honest opinion.

QC review

So Quantum Core is one of the oldest HUDS around. Now before getting into the HUD itself, many people have told me don’t buy one, that it is laggy, and shit. Lets find out the truth.

QC for me has had good response time even under lag, it is a bit faster than most other HUDS I have tested and runs pretty well. The main thing I enjoy about it is that even though it uses float text, the text can be scaled however you want, plus it also has a smart scale. Awhile back viewer two broke float text to where other HUDS that used it had the text displayed improperly. This would not have been an issue as you could have just forced the text down a bit.

The navigation can be a bit confusing at first, though after a day or so I got the hang of it. The ability to attack yourself is something I enjoy as well. I normally like to test on myself before testing on others, or just because I find it comical to orbit myself at random in combat sims. All the menus can be accessed really easily by simply clicking, to go back you just hit the “main” button. I found this really useful to swap through attacks quickly. The option to use chat commands all so is helpful since most other people resort to dialogs these days. So QC defiantly a solid 9 out of 10.

One of my favorite things is probably that you can always see what attack targets are around you as QC displays them. Speaking of attacks, most of the attacks are really great and have brilliant effects to them. I personally enjoy the ice the best. So for gadgets, attacks, and defense, QC is not that bad.

That is my two cents on it, I personally enjoy it and think its a fun HUD to play with. If you want to cough up the 1,800 linden for a good HUD that has good support and is reliable, you should check out QC.

New Project

My newest and largest, most polished project is under way, wish me luck. Oh and we have a website now at www.xylexsl.com happy days and once again wish me luck.

Lol updates :P

In the process of doing an update on hope to add some new skins and customizable elements to it. I am also doing a quick update to the atomic vita gun in order to make it crash the user less with its *breaker that causes most huds to become unresponsive. Divinity had a update to it for new npv’s and cat bot will have a update to follow at some point. Been busy with rl things, but will try to fit time in when possible.
